Holiday at Pulau Pinang (Pinang Island)

During this semester break, we have visited Pulau Pinang, a part of Penang state (Malaysia). Our trip is 3 days and 2 nights. We left UTP at 8 am on Saturday 10th March and came back on 12th March. First we take a bus to Ipoh, then we continue to Betterworth. After we reach Butterworth, we take a furry to P. Pinang. We reached there around 3 pm. After we reach there, we went to Komta, one of the supermarket there, to have lunch. after finishing our lunch, we went to the hotel we'd booked. After settled down, around 6 pm, we went to the chinese temple. after that we went to Plaza Gurney to have our diner and shopping. Around 10 pm, the supermarket is closed and we need to go back to the hotel. Since we've asked the taxi driver for info, we were told that we can walk from Plaza Gurney to hotel. First we decide to walk, but after a while we almost ended up with losing our way to the hotel. At last, some of us took taxi and some took bus to the hotel.

The second day, we went to the snake temple in the morning. There, we met 3 Cambodian. They went there to join a conference. We had a small talk before we continue our trip. After that, we went to Pinang Hill. We had our lunch there. I ate Laksa Penang, the favorite food there. after we had our lunch, we took a train to the top of the hill. from the top. we can see the whole view of P. Pinang. We leave there around 1:30 pm. After that we went to butterfly farm; then we went to Burmese pagoda. After that, we went to the sleeping temple, just opposite the Burmese pagoda. Sleeping temple is a Thai pagoda with the statue of Sleeping Buddha. After we spend some time there, we went to the beach around 3 pm. We stayed at the beach till the evening (of course we didn't swim). Around 7 pm we had our diner and at 8pm we left the beach. 3 of us went back to the hotel since they were tired, and the rest of us (including me) went to shopping mall again. We shopped till they closed the mall. At night, we play card together till 2 am. It was so fun.

On the third day, we had breakfast at the hotel. After that we checked out, and went to Gunung bus station. We leave there at 12 pm. From P.Pinang to Butterworth, we we across the Penang bridge , on of the longest bridge in the world with the length of 13.5km. We arrive Ipoh at 2 pm. Since it is still hot, we decided not to go back to our university immediately. We went to Ipoh Perade (one of the shopping mall in Ipoh). The Japanese food there is not expensive. I end up eating Japanese most of the time i went there. We left Ipoh at 6 pm and we arrived our university at 7 pm. Even it was a tired trip, but had so much fun.

Software Engineering Project...

This afternoon, i received a project from SE lecturer. It's a group projects of 3 to 5 members in a group. The project is interesting. All groups has to build an official website for my university. Since the change of my university website, i feel that it became worst than before (user interface is bad, hard to nevigate and so on...). From what my lecturer said all groups has to compete each other. I hope that one of the projects should be taken to propose to the UTP management, so that UTP has a better website.

រៀនហើយរៀនទៀត រៀនមិនចេះឈប់! vs រៀនហើយរៀនទៀត រៀនមិនចេះ ឈប់!

This is just a khemr phrase which i was always hear from my teacher back to my time in high school. He always ask if his students in which group. Actually, he made a joke of this phrase, but actually, if we try to look at it carefully, we'll see that the second phrase has one more space in between the words ចេះ and ឈប់. It's really make differences much just one space like in our liives, it's really difference when we just have a space of friendship in our hearts. When we are lack of friends we will experience the loneliness.

Back to the phrase, for me, it looks like both phrase suite me. sometimes the first suites me, but sometimes the second ;). how about you? Which one suite u most?

*some of the words above using khmer unicode, make sure ur browser support in order to read.

SUSE Linux 10.1 released

The latest version of the famous Linux distribution, SUSE Linux, was released recently. With the good cooperation between KhmerOS and Novell, finally we were able to make SUSE Linux 10.1 the first Linux distribution that works well with Khmer out of the box. By choosing Khmer as the installation language (yes, you can install in Khmer), you'll get Khmer font, keyboard and many application translated.

Some problem still exist though. One of the Khmer fonts (named Khmer OS) is broken due to the lacking of testing, the translation of OpenOffice is not included on the media due to the space is limited. Another problem is the translation. In this release, SUSE include only KDE 3.5.1 which mean many Khmer translation are missed for KDE.

You can download the complete ISOs from the URLs below or get them at Open Forum of Cambodia. We can burn them on CDs for you, but DON'T forget to bring your own CDs :-)
